TOP-10 Of My Metal and Rock  History!

''A couple of great classics are missing, but it is a Top-10! of first bands which came to mind.'' Kreator,Noisehunter, Iron Angel,Testament,Flotsam & Jetsam and more...

03-09-2018 01.Iron Maiden-Iron Maiden (1980)

One of the first records i got aquinted with was Iron Maiden (U.K) and their self entitled album from 1980. My dad was a hardrocker himself in the early days with his long orange, blonde hair, and had this really cool lp record collection which i inherited like a year ago. He said he didn't listen to them anymore, so i could have his collection.Paul di'Anno was for me the ultimate Maiden vocalist with his ''Punk-ish'' appearance.''Charlotte The Harlot''  had to be my favorite track, as it keep on ringing it in my head as a small kid.

We also had the 7'' The Soundhouse Tapes'' from 1979 in the family, but for some reason it gost lost during the years. It contained 3 tracks, and with its orange cover it was really an eyecatcher.Nowadays it has become a real gem for collectors.

02.Scorpions-Best of Vol.2 (1984)

Got the album in as a cassettetape edition through my dad from these Germans, as a birthday present when i was 6 or 7(?). Never got into their music then only this album though, but they had some good songs like '' Top of the Bill'' with an extreme KILLER guitarsolo,''They need a Million'' with some great acoustic guitars or We''ll burn the Sky''.Still have this tape 'til this day. Nostalgia!

03.Motorhead-Iron Fist (1982)

In his recordcollection  my dad also owned the classic '' Iron Fist'' from the English Rock/hardrock band Motorhead. He let me listen to it every Saturday night when he didn't had to work, and had a beer alongside with his headphones on, listening to his lp's.

The raw sound of the production  really adapted me to their kind of style, never hearing this before. Motorhead played Fast,Hard and Loud, and never dissapointed through all these years.Unfortunaly i never experienced them live, and never will after the deceased frontman Phil Taylor a.k.a Lemmy ''Kilmister'' Taylor in 2015.

04.Guns N' Roses-Appetite for Destruction (1987)

This album has to be the ultimate highlight for the band as the fan! The rebellious Rock and Roll the band produced in 1987 still stands solid as a rock! With famous songs like ''Paradise City'' and ''Sweet Child Of Mine'' which got broadcasted 24 hours a day on MTV's Music Televison. Can remember collecting all kinds of pictures from magazines of the band and Axl Rose  in particular with his notorious lifestyle, of prison and countless arrests in the late 80's.

The band proved they also have another side, this of sweet ballads and calm parts, with use of acoustics, and classical instruments like a piano.

05.Exodus-Fabulous Disaster (1988)

Thrash Metal from the States! Remember that both of my brothers bought the same CD at the same time and were argueing about it. They played the record at the same time, just to find out  how loud it possibly could get! Great thrash Metal, and enjoyed it back in the days, especially '' The Toxic Waltz'' was a song to bang your head to. Seems nowadays this song has become a real classic in the ''live scene''.

06.Slayer-South of Heaven (1988)

Released in the same year as Exodus '' Fabulous Disaster'' , but yet far more well known in the Metalscene in general. Thrash Metal from the States with Tom Araya as frontman until this day! I got familiar with the band with this record in particular. my brother bought the lp at a local recordstore back in the days, and first time i listened to it, i was sold! The great guitarsolos, and the so famous ultimate harsh lyrics from Araya, brought the band far into the international scene. They have become famous worldwide, and intended to do a final last worldtour last year, but seems they will continue for another year. They are already booked as headliner for Hellfest, France in 2019! Favorite alltime track has to be ''Silent Scream'' due the killer song writing.

07.Sodom-Persecution Mania (1987)

Thrash Metal from Germany!Heavily inspired by Black Metal influences, and  Satanic imagery. Sodom was from the start one of the highlights coming to German Thrash Metal!
First time i met up with their music was in 1987 ( i was then 7 years old),and first time the record came out. The album blew you away immediately with the first track ''Nuclear Winter'', and would grab you to the seat for the rest of the record. Not many bands are able to do that nowadays. It takes variation, time,  the will, and a rare  gift in writing music. Eventhrough a writing process can last up for years...but then you have something decent to bring out.In my opinion after this release it went downwards with this band, unfortunaly. They never succeeded to achieve same level as ''Persecution Mania'' era ever again.

Sodom-1987

08.Sepultura-Schizophrenia (1987)

Thrash/Death Metal from Brasil! Really got into the band with CHAOS A.D, but before that heard about them through tapetrading with the other kids from the neighbourhood. We used to play this record out loud on the square with a ghettoblaster we used to own, as you could insert cassettetapes in there. Great times, and used to like Cavalera his mighty Death Metal growls! After this release, the band dropped whole their Satanic imagery, and went on to more the political things on the side.

09.Metallica- ...and justice for all (1988)

However already aquinted with the band through my dad, and the album ''Kill 'em All'' this record was bought by my brother as cassettetape editon, as still have it until this day.You couldn't get around it with songs as ''One'' and ''Blackened''. Somewhat different than the band's history of Thrash Metal, this album had more variation, and easily could be placed in the category ''Hardrock''  with ballads worked away in the classic '' One'', as the video would be 24 hours a day on MTV's Music Channel. The band changed style for many years now, and play besides Punk influenced songs, also various kinds  of ballads.Whole a different kind of band and style than we knew, eventhrough the band doesn't forget the first albums, and play them live regurarly.

10.Judas Priest-Painkiller (1990)

Already was aquinted with the band, once again through my dad, as this has to be my favorite album by theirs. It sounds harsh, brutal, and really straight forward. It sounded really new, and exciting after Judas Priest got influenced by the new wave of Heavy Metal. The production is overwhelming, which makes the songs even more powerful!
From the start with '' Painkiller'' it is already pretty clear the album awaits you nothing but quality Heavy Metal from the top shelf! Still enjoy it frequently...
